Water management usually considers economic and ecological objectives, involves tradeoffs, conflicts, compromise, cooperation among objectives. Pareto optimality often is championed in water management, but its relationships with the mathematical representation of implications tradeoffs for optimal decisions, are rarely examined. We evaluate properties optimized to identify promising regions suggest strategies reducing better understand whether decision-makers more or less likely cooperate on environmental allocations. Cooperation compromise objectives can be easier when tradeoff curves concave adversarial convex. “Knees,” areas maximum curvature, bulges, breakpoints frontiers, compromise.
